COURSE DETAILS

Taught by top industry professionals, our program provides students with a safe and supportive space for learning and creative expression. Develop communication and presentation skills, build confidence, create a vision for your life and open the door to new potential career opportunities. All while learning the magical art of acting for film.

OUR HANDS-ON PROGRAM COVERS THE FOLLOWING:

  • Voice & Speech
  • Audition Techniques
  • Improvisation
  • Presenting for Camera
  • Acting for Commercials

The year culminates in a short film shoot showcased at our annual cinema screening.
Material may be used for the acting student’s show-reel.
Students, who successfully complete a full year’s training, will receive an ACT Certificate of Completion.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS:

Students may be recommended to participate in a graded performance examination through the internationally recognised London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

CLASS SCHEDULE:

Weekly two-hour group classes held throughout the school terms. See our Course Calendar for a detailed schedule of classes.

COST:

R2340.00 per term – Term 1, 2 & 4
R4100.00 – Term 3 (Film Project)

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Students wishing to continue their studies with us may re-enrol for the following year. Program structure will remain the same, however course curriculum and content is adjusted to consider individual requirements of student and overall performance level of class.
  • Students participating in the annual LAMDA examination will, upon successful completion, continue with the journey onto the next level.

OUR COACHES

Tamryn Speirs

Tamryn is a professional film, television and theatre actress who followed her dreams to study abroad in New York in 2007 where she worked with her mentor Susan Batson, acting coach to the stars. Her most recent film roles include, “Girl from Nowhere” (2012), “Tess” (2015) and” Zandile’s Birthday” (2016). Tamryn has been an acting coach at Act Cape Town for 11 years and has recently guest lectured workshops in Directing Actors for both SAE and CPUT.

ROB COUTTS

Rob Coutts is a Capetonian actor, musician and voice artist who holds a BA in Live Performance from AFDA. He has performed in musicals, plays, TV shows and films. He was a founding member of The Long Shots improv troupe, which was formed in 2011, and has been performing with them constantly ever since. He has directed The Long Shots on occasion, and, on a rotational basis with the rest of the troupe, he gives a Thursday night ‘drop-in’ class for anyone who wishes to play at improv.

MARLISA DOUBELL

Marlisa completed her formal training at The Academy of Live & Recorded arts, Wandsworth, London, 2000. She went on to help establish a co-operative actors agency called Billboard Personal Management which still operates to this day. Marlisa has enjoyed great success with her LAMDA training both privately with adults and freelance teaching for various schools such as St Cyprian’s, Camps Bay, St George’s, training ages 8-18.
